James Redmond and Greg Mulholland MP launch the quiz at the House of Commons

Thursday 25 February 2010

Greg Mulholland MP, chair of the All Party Parliamentary Save the Pub Group, and Casualty and Hollyoaks star James Redmond launched the World’s Biggest Pub Quiz at the House of Commons yesterday.

Greg said: “This is an absolutely fantastic initiative, and I want to pay tribute to the Family Holiday Association for coming up with the idea. I will be urging MPs to go back to pubs in their constituency and ask them to take part.”

James Redmond spoke of hundreds of quizzes taking part around the World - in pubs and bars, on trains, in holiday parks and on an aeroplane.

Family Holiday Association director John McDonald said that the charity hopes to help 2,000 disadvantaged families have a much-needed break in 2010, and said all funds raised by the World’s Biggest Pub Quiz will help achieve the goal.

He added: "We know that a break away from home helps build happier stronger families – and almost one in three families with young children will miss out this summer because of poverty – that’s over two million families – seven million people."
